Start with the story

Read this out loud before the first clue. It turns “go find some cards” into a mission.

Live from the Racetrack

Calling all Rookie Racers!

This is Turbo Tess, your Grand Prix race announcer, live from the track! Today is the big race, but this morning a giant gust of wind went whoosh down the racetrack and blew all of our checkpoint flags away. Without them, the racers don’t know which way to drive!

My pit crew tracked down eight checkpoint flags and tucked a rhyming riddle onto each one. Every riddle tells you where the next flag is waiting.

Good racers drive safely: walk, don’t run, take turns, and give a big “Vroom, vroom!” every time you find a flag. Follow the course all the way to the finish line, where the Golden Trophy is waiting for the winners!

Your first checkpoint flag is attached. Start your engines!

See you at the finish line,
Turbo Tess, Race Announcer

Between clues, read a race car rhyme to keep the story going:

Start your engines, racers, it’s Grand Prix day!
But the wind came along and blew the flags away!

Vroom, vroom! A flag! You’re zooming so fast,
Now shift into high gear, you won’t finish last!

One lap is left and the finish is in sight,
The Golden Trophy is waiting, shining so bright!
